Presentation:

Powder Flow : Case Studies based on the experience of a Materials Consultancy organisation

This presentation assumes the audience has a basic understanding of the different methods for measuring flow.

Lucideon Limited is a Materials Consultancy organisation, supporting a wide range of industries to develop new products, embrace new processing equipment, change raw materials based on legislative threats or generate compelling claims support. Powder Characterisation and use of Design of Experiment to establish correlations to end product performance is crucial to our work. Amongst the many Powder Characterisation techniques, Powder Flow plays a critical role.

In this presentation, a number of non-attributable case studies (based on similar requests from two or more clients) will be presented. The studies will illustrate how powder flow can assist clients in (i) gaining a better understanding of their products and (ii) making decisions on follow-on pilot-scale trials. Results from a range of powder flow techniques will be presented, from simple tests such as Angle of Repose through to the recently acquired Freeman FT4 rheometer. The importance of checking trends suggested by powder flow with other measured properties is stressed – trends in powder flow alone are not always an accurate guide to processing / product performance.
