International standardization through ISO/TC 24/SC 4 “Particle characterization including sieving” has a long history. We started with standardization of opening series of sieving, which was an only option for industrial particle size analysis. Then ‘instrumental measurement’ of particle size distribution followed.

Recently, SC 4 “Particle Characterization” extended its scope to particle characterization other than PSD analysis, in which a couple of topics such as particle mechanical properties and particle systems characterization are going to be covered. With the direction, SC 4 established TG 1 as a new ’task group’ to study the feasibility of standardization of ‘powder mechanics’, including flowability, share testing, etc. In this talk, the history of TC 24 and recent development will be introduced.
